is no doubt that the cooled CCD cameras specially designed for
astronomy have higher performances compared to a DSLR, although cooled
and improved as our 700Da Cooled. This color camera is perfect for
people looking for an instrument with large sensor and with a greater
ease of use. Moreover, unlike almost all CCD cameras for astronomy, it
allows you to record amazing pictures even without the need for an
external PC to control it."
Sensor cooling system with double Peltier cell
of deep-sky objects such as galaxies, nebulae and star clusters
requires long exposire times, usually several minutes. When we use a
non-cooled camera for this application, you may notice a strong
electronic noise that ruins the poses not allowing us to record and
clearly see the weaker details. To solve this problem our 700Da Cooled
uses a cooling system with double Peltier cell thet is able to lower and
keep constant the sensor temperature, up to -30 ° C with respect to

the cooling system has a display that shows the current temperature of
the sensor, the temperature we want to achieve, the relative speed of
the cooling fan (which does not introduce vibrations) and the intensity
of the anti-dewing system for the front filter. Special touch buttons
allow you to adjust all the parameters to set the camera as you prefer.
Temperature regulation is absolute then the sensor will work at the same
temperature all night letting you record (if you want) the dark frames
when you prefer!
Anti-dewing system of the front filter
cooling requires attention as it can lead to front filter dewing. For
this reason our 700Da Cooled uses a special anti-dewing system that only
heats the front filter (and not the sensor!) allowing you to avoid this
anti-dewing system can be controlled and adjusted using the same keys
that regulate the cooling system. It's possible to adjust the power of
the heating with 5 levels to best suit the humidity conditions (1 = minimal heating; 5 = maximum heating).
For added protection, only when used in high humidity (with humidity at or near 100%), we recommend the use of our Canon EOS T2
ring with filter holder that, with the inclusion of one of our 50.8mm
diameter filters, completely seals the internal part of the camera and
then provides complete protection against dewing.

APS-C sensor with big dimensions
main advantage of DSLR cameras with respect to the dedicated CCD
cameras for astronomy is to have a large sensor, bigger to the one of
CCD cameras of comparable price.
To the right, you can find a comparison of the sensor size of our 700Da Cooled camera (in red) with the Sony and Kodak sensors
installed on many CCD cameras for astronomy, such as Atik (in blue). As
a reference we also report the size of a Full Frame sensor which also
corresponds to the one of the old film cameras.

others: the use of the cooling system allows you to have a cooled camera
at a lower cost than the one of CCD cameras for astronomy with similar
Modified filter for more sensitivity
order to keep a proper color balance in daylight use, DSLRs use a
filter placed in front of the sensor that is not completely transparent,
especially at longer wavelengths corresponding to red. In astronomical
application that is a problem because the most important emission line,
the H-alpha (emitted by many nebulae for example) is right in the red
part of the spectrum.
Cooled camera replaces the original filter with a model designed
specifically for astrophotography increasing the camera sensitivity and
allowing you to take brighter pictures.

installed on 700Da Cooled (red curve) with the original one of the Canon
EOS 700D (blue curve). For reference we reported in green also the
position of the H-alpha line .
see how from about 550nm original filter decreases transmissivity while
our modified filter lets all the light pass up to 700nm, so you can
record more easily all the red weak details. The difference
is huge considering the H-alpha line where the original filter has a
transmissivity of about 30% while the modified one has a transmissivity
of about 98%.
700Da Cooled, compared to the original Canon EOS 700D, then it has not
only a much lower electronic noise but it's also more sensitive.
Power without battery with dedicated adapter
the limitations of the use of DSLR cameras in astrophotography is the
battery life. When working at low temperatures the efficiency of the
rechargeable batteries drops significantly and it's not unlikely to run
out of power in the middle of a pose!
reason our 700Da Cooled camera presents, at the bottom, close to the
12V power port that power up the cooling and anti-dewing systems,
there's an 7,4V power output. You just connect to this socket the supplied power adapter
and insert the other side in the battery compartment of the DSLR. In
this way, the single 12V power supply (5 amps) power up both the camera
and the cooling system: now you can be sure you can take
astrophotographs all night!
Caution: for operation, the 700Da Cooled camera requires a 12V 5A power supply not included in the package.
Integrated shutter control
If you use the camera without a control PC, now you no longer need either manual or timer shutter controller to
record your best pictures! In fact we integrate (in the same
electronics that control the cooling system) also the shutter control.
This way you can set, using the rear buttons, the number of pictures to
be recorded and their exposition time.
also define the time the camera wait before starting the exposure and
the time separating each exposure. You can also set automatic recording
of 2 sets of exposures with different exposition times: for example you
can set the camera to record 20 images with 300 seconds exposition + 10
images with 900 seconds exposition. Image capture can be stopped at any time by pressing any button of rear electronics.

Optional shockproof hard shell case for transport:
pictures of the night sky with telescopes often moves in search of no
light polluted area. The portability of each instrument is therefore a
key parameter. For this reason we offer an optional beautiful shockproof hard case for the 700Da Cooled camera.
Here you can insert and carry your camera and there is also additional space to add other accessories.
The case is IP67 certified for maximum resistance to water and dust, and its structure in polypropylene copolymer can withstand also fall shocks. The inside pre-cut foam cubes let you easily create space for other accessories. Externally it has double-step safety locks and automatic pressurization valve.
