This 6" Newtonian astrograph from Meade is a great solution for
astrophotographers looking to capture deep sky objects. A compact
telescope with a wide field, this LX85 astrograph captures as much light
as possible with its 6-inch BK7 (borosilicate) mirror and enhanced
reflectivity coatings. An f/4.1 focal ratio ensures a fast optical
system when coupled with a DSLR or astronomy camera, making this
astrograph great for shorter exposures.
The Crayford-style focuser has a 10:1 reduction fine focus knob for
precision focusing, brass compression rings to protect the barrels of
eyepieces and camera adapters, and a 2" to 1.25" step down adapter to
accept either size eyepieces. With a long back-focus of 77.1 mm this
LX85 astrograph is designed to achieve focus with DSLR cameras,
astrophotography cameras, and a variety of imaging accessories. For
visual use, this telescope includes a 35 mm long, 2" diameter eyepiece
extension tube (which accommodates both 2" and 1.25" eyepieces).
This astrograph also includes hinged tube rings, a Vixen-style
dovetail rail, a 26 mm super Plossl eyepiece, and an 8x50 finder scope
with bracket.
When used with low power 2" eyepieces or camera sensors above ~4:3
format, an optional coma corrector (sold separately) is recommended.
LX85 Equatorial Mount with AudioStar Controller
The LX85 German equatorial mount with AudioStar hand controller is a
great go-to system for your astrograph. Slew and track over 30,000
objects with fully automated GoTo slewing and tracking. The mount has an
integer gearing motor drive that allows for long exposure tracking.
Also built into the mount is an autoguider port to connect an
autoguiding camera.
As the name suggests, the AudioStar hand controller features a
built-in speaker that plays 4+ hours of educational content about the
objects in its database. The controller plugs into the mount to align
the telescope and navigate the night sky. The AudioStar controller is
capable of many educational functions, including guided tours of
celestial objects and the ability to link with a PC (with software and
appropriate cable, both sold separately).
