CPC DELUXE HD Series

The wait is over! Celestron's award-winning EdgeHD optical system is now available on a newly designed top-of-the-line dual fork arm computerized mount - The CPC Deluxe HD. Available in 8", 9.25" and 11" models, the CPC Deluxe HD telescope line re-defines everything that amateur astronomers are looking for - ease of use, quick and simple GPS alignment, improved ergonomics, enhanced computerization, unsurpassed optical quality and most importantly, affordability.

As a visual instrument, the EdgeHD optical system delivers pinpoint images across your widest field eyepiece, providing you stunning clarity and sharpness that will leave you wanting more. When used for astrophotography with our new Nightscape or your own favorite CCD or DSLR camera, the EdgeHD optical system produces a flat focal plane allowing pinpoint stars to the very edge of your image.

As an added bonus, all EdgeHD optical tubes feature a removable secondary mirror (Fastar) for ultra-fast f/2 CCD imaging. Add Celestron's HD Pro Wedge, Guidescope Package, NexGuide Autoguider, T-Adapter and Nightscape CCD camera, and you have the ultimate imaging setup with the convenience of a dual fork arm and unparalleled optical system. Own this premier telescope line today, and it will surely keep you up all night.

If you’re evaluating the Celestron CPC lineup (especially the “CPC Deluxe/GPS/HD” series), the main trade-offs are aperture (light gathering and resolution), portability/setup ease, and how suited each scope is to different observing or imaging purposes. Below is a comparison of the three core full-size models in the lineup.

ModelAperture / SizeStrengthsTrade-offs / What to know
Celestron CPC 800 GPS SCT Telescope8" (203 mm) Schmidt-Cassegrain- Most portable and easiest to set up — lighter, easier to move/transport.
- Good compromise for casual observing: planets, Moon, bright DSOs (clusters, nebulae), some galaxies.
- Faster setup makes it more likely you’ll use it regularly.
- Less light-gathering and resolution than the larger CPC scopes. Side-by-side with 9.25" or 11" models — differences are often subtle unless you’re doing serious deep-sky work.
Celestron CPC 925 GPS SCT Telescope9.25" (234 mm) Schmidt-Cassegrain / EdgeHD (on “Deluxe” or “HD” versions)- Sweet spot between portability and performance: noticeably stronger light-gathering and resolution compared to the 8".
- Better for fainter deep-sky objects, more detail on clusters, nebulae, galaxies — and improved planetary/lunar detail.
- Still relatively manageable to transport, yet offers a noticeable upgrade in capability.
- Heavier and less portable than the 8" — may be more effort to set up, especially for repeated use.
- If you mount for imaging and add accessories, weight and balance can become more cumbersome.
Celestron CPC 1100 GPS SCT Telescope11" (279 mm) Schmidt-Cassegrain (C11) on CPC fork/mount- Maximum light gathering and resolution in the CPC line — ideal for faint galaxies, nebulae, deep-sky work, and very fine detail on planets, the Moon, and planetary nebulae.
- Longer focal length better for high-magnification planetary/lunar observing and small DSOs.
- Great for one-time setup (e.g. observatory, backyard) where you don’t need to move it often.
- Heavy and bulky — full setup is much less portable, more like a permanent setup than a grab-and-go scope.
- Long focal length gives narrower field of view, which makes wide-field viewing or large nebulae/galaxy clusters less convenient.
- Fork-mount form factor (vs. an equatorial mount) may limit longer-exposure deep-sky imaging unless additional wedge and guiding gear is used.

Which CPC is best for different use cases

  • Frequent casual observing / portability matters -> Go for the 8" (CPC 800). Easy to store, transport, and set up; great for Moon, planets, star clusters, bright nebulae.

  • Balanced performance + flexibility -> The 9.25" (CPC 925) is widely regarded as the “sweet spot” for many hobbyists: enough aperture to reveal more deep-sky detail without becoming too unwieldy.

  • Deep-sky/serious observing or minimal transport -> If you care about deep-sky objects, dim galaxies, fine planetary detail — and don’t plan to move the scope often — the 11" (CPC 1100) offers the most power and long-term potential.

Additional factors to consider before buying

  • Portability & frequency of use: A larger scope gives more capability — but a telescope you don’t use because it’s too heavy/setup-intensive is wasted potential. Some seasoned owners say a “smaller scope you actually bring out every month” is often more rewarding than a “big scope that stays in the closet.”

  • Mount type: CPC uses an altazimuth dual-fork mount. Great for visual observing and quick setup, but for longer-exposure astrophotography you’ll likely need an equatorial wedge, autoguider, and know the limitations (field rotation, meridian flips, etc.).

  • Focal length vs. field of view: Larger models have long focal lengths (good for planets, small objects) but narrow fields — which can make observing large nebulae or galaxy clusters less convenient.

  • Your observing site and skies: Under light-polluted or sub-optimal skies (like in/near cities), the gain from large aperture is less pronounced; smaller telescopes may suffice and be easier to use often.
