The 10" Dobsonian Telescope from Sky-Watcher is a large-aperture, short focal-length, Newtonian reflector. It provides big light-bucket gathering, good optical quality and unique utility. It has an inspiring simple construction, emphasizing ease-of-use and greater aperture for lower cost.

Sky-Watcher's optical tube design utilizes their proprietary truss support system. That system allows the optical tube's front and back tubes to collapse together, aligning on the truss support rods, and locking down for secure transport. This one piece, low-hassle OTA design is mechanically simple and results in a large aperture telescope that can be reasonably handled and transported by one individual. This innovation gives Sky-Watcher users tremendous functional ease-of-use.

The Sky-Watcher Dobsonian's large aperture and fast focal ratio make it the ideal dedicated telescope for wide-field, deep-space observation of faint galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters. For ease-of-use, Sky-Watcher uses a high-performance Teflon bearing system in both axes combined with tension adjusters in altitude that assure smooth manual movement.

In viewing deep-space aperture counts big time. With this telescope you have tremendous light gathering power. Some prominent deep-space objects seen well in an 10" SW DOB are the Lagoon (M8), Trifid (M20), and Swan (M17) nebulae, the globular star clusters M13 and M92 in Hercules, the Great Orion Nebula (M42) and our local galaxy group companion, the Andromeda Galaxy (M31), and many more.

On each parabolic primary mirror, and elliptical diagonal mirror, aluminum is vacuum deposited to the front glass surface and then over coated with hard quartz (SiO4). Additional layers of titanium dioxide (TiO2) and (SiO4) are then applied.

An 8x50mm right angle optical viewfinder provides both magnification and light gathering to help narrow your search for those elusive fuzzies while star-hopping. The standard, backlash-free, 2" Crayford Focuser insures ultra smooth focusing adjustments. Multi-coated, 4-element Plossl eyepieces (25mm and 10mm) provide a spacious 52° Apparent Field of View.

    Sky-Watcher 12" DOB: Deep-Space Hero!

    The Sky-Watcher 12" DOB is a big gun. If you are shooting for well resolved, elusive 12th-magnitude fuzzies, you now have the power. In fact, a very significant wow-factor extends down to viewing the stuff people usually concentrate on with 8" and 10" telescopes.     Viewing Through the SW 12" DOB
    Everything in deep-space appears brighter, and wider in extension with the SW 12" DOB. Many of the more challenging to resolve objects in smaller diameter telescopes now reveal their essential structure. Objects just within the threshold of a 10" aperture now appear more prominent and may be worth dwelling upon for extended periods. Comet hunters will delight in the fainter magnitudes that are possible to discern in the SW 12" DOB. Here at last is a telescope within the threshold to tackle elusive deep-space gems like the Horsehead Nebula in Constellation Orion. Located in Constellation Perseus, M76, is a very faint nebula of 11th magnitude. The SW 12" will capture this baby like you want to see it. M97, a planetary nebula in Ursa Major is very faint, but as a serious amateur you will want to see it. No worries, the SW 12" DOB will fulfill your quest. M61, a spiral galaxy in Constellation Virgo, will reveal spiral arms as you would hope to see them, but you will need a SW 12" telescope to resolve them well. The list goes on, and you will delight in planning your own journey of exploration.

    The incremental resolving power of the SW 12" aperture is beyond just being impressive, it's within amateur astronomy's super aperture threshold where the lucky observer is able to resolve well, many, many objects that smaller telescopes just don't have the horsepower to detail satisfactorily because they can't pull in enough light.     To ensure mechanical ease-of-use, SW uses a high performance Teflon bearing system in both axes combined with tension adjustment in altitude to facilitate setting the appropriate amount of friction, assuring smooth vertical and horizontal manual movement without free-play from small bumps or gusts of wind. This also eliminates the need to have a balanced optical tube as in an equatorial mount. Sky-Watcher's Teflon bearing system is preferable to the use of ball-bearings. Ball-bearings make unintended movement of the optical tube more difficult to control. Fortunately, at low power, deep-space objects leisurely drift through the field of the SW 12" DOB, so constant mechanical adjustment of the telescope's orientation isn't needed to keep objects in the field of view.

    Sky-Watcher improves on the often unwieldy standard design of Dobsonians with their 8" f/5.9 Collapsible GoTo Dobsonian Telescope. It features a patented truss tube system that enables the front corrector plate/eyepiece assembly to be moved back and locked against the main rear tube to greatly reduce the size of the OTA for storage and transportation. This open OTA also has the benefit of reducing overall weight versus standard Dobs. To add another level of usability to the scope is a motorized ground-based rocker alt-az mount. Equipped with dual servo motors, they are controlled using the SynScan computer hand controller. This self-contained system features over 42,000 celestial objects with alignment assistance, guided tours and full go-to capabilities.     Sky-Watcher 12" DOB: Deep-Space Hero!

    The Sky-Watcher 12" DOB is a big gun. If you are shooting for well resolved, elusive 12th-magnitude fuzzies, you now have the power. In fact, a very significant wow-factor extends down to viewing the stuff people usually concentrate on with 8" and 10" telescopes. Except they say, "WOW!", when they view through this super aperture amateur 12" SW telescope. You can not only be a hero to yourself, but a mystical guru to other backyard astronomers, scout groups, friends, and neighbors. Astronomy is a great hobby to share, and a SW 12" DOB makes you potentially the hit of any star party. Well, so much for ego satisfaction—the point is—the SW 12" DOB is a serious telescope that will be purchased by a serious amateur who wants serious deep-sky penetrating resolution. Be advised this Light Chariot is one sweet astronomical ride!
    Viewing Through the SW 12" DOB
    Everything in deep-space appears brighter, and wider in extension with the SW 12" DOB. Many of the more challenging to resolve objects in smaller diameter telescopes now reveal their essential structure. Objects just within the threshold of a 10" aperture now appear more prominent and may be worth dwelling upon for extended periods. Comet hunters will delight in the fainter magnitudes that are possible to discern in the SW 12" DOB. Here at last is a telescope within the threshold to tackle elusive deep-space gems like the Horsehead Nebula in Constellation Orion. Located in Constellation Perseus, M76, is a very faint nebula of 11th magnitude. The SW 12" will capture this baby like you want to see it. M97, a planetary nebula in Ursa Major is very faint, but as a serious amateur you will want to see it. No worries, the SW 12" DOB will fulfill your quest. M61, a spiral galaxy in Constellation Virgo, will reveal spiral arms as you would hope to see them, but you will need a SW 12" telescope to resolve them well. The list goes on, and you will delight in planning your own journey of exploration.
    The incremental resolving power of the SW 12" aperture is beyond just being impressive, it's within amateur astronomy's super aperture threshold where the lucky observer is able to resolve well, many, many objects that smaller telescopes just don't have the horsepower to detail satisfactorily because they can't pull in enough light. Again, Sky-Watcher's compact, collapsible optical tube design makes this super aperture 12" DOB a far more practical decision to purchase.
    The 12" Sky-Watcher Establishes a New Standard in Large Aperture Ease-of-UseObserving with a Dobsonian has been described akin to shooting ducks in a gallery because it is so easy to find your target. Just swing your SW DOB to the quadrant of sky to be searched, and scan the vicinity. An 8x50mm Right Angle optical viewfinder provides both magnification and light-gathering to help narrow your search for those elusive fuzzies when star-hopping. The standard-equipment backlash-free 2" Crayford Focuser insures ultra smooth focusing adjustments. Multi-coated, 4-element Pl?ssl eyepieces (25mm and 10mm) provide a spacious 52? Apparent Field of View.

    To ensure mechanical ease-of-use, SW uses a high performance Teflon bearing system in both axes combined with tension adjustment in altitude to facilitate setting the appropriate amount of friction, assuring smooth vertical and horizontal manual movement without free-play from small bumps or gusts of wind. This also eliminates the need to have a balanced optical tube as in an equatorial mount. Sky-Watcher's Teflon bearing system is preferable to the use of ball-bearings. Ball-bearings make unintended movement of the optical tube more difficult to control. Fortunately, at low power, deep-space objects leisurely drift through the field of the SW 12" DOB, so constant mechanical adjustment of the telescope's orientation isn't needed to keep objects in the field of view.

    Sky-Watcher's revolutionary truss-support concept allows the optical tube's front and back cells to collapse together, aligning on the truss support rods which can then be locked down for easy and secure telescope transport. This one piece, low-hassle OTA design is mechanically simple and results in large aperture telescopes that can be reasonably handled and transported by one individual. This innovation gives Sky-Watcher users tremendous functional ease-of-transportability.

    Sky-Watcher Uses Quality Components Throughout

    The Sky-Watcher 12" DOB utilizes quality components throughout. Pride of workmanship manifests itself in high quality standards of optical and mechanical fabrication. The polishing process for primary and diagonal mirror yields smooth mirror surfaces ensuring good contrast, and properly corrected optics show minimum alterations to the optical wave-front.

    On each primary mirror, and elliptical diagonal mirror aluminum is vacuum deposited to the front glass surface and then over coated with hard quartz (SiO4). Additional layers of Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) and (SiO4) are then applied. Dust covers are provided to help keep your DOB clean when not being used.

    The mechanical and structural components of the OTA exhibit rigid construction and outstanding stability. The mount construction is sturdy and rigid. Mount design, while simple, facilitates smooth motions about both axes. Quality accessories enhance the observer's viewing experience.

    It arrived in three huge boxes, one containing the OTA, one the 14" mirror and one the parts for the Dobsonian mount. It was easily assembled in about an hour, with the only "sweaty" bit being the mounting of the mirror onto the mirror support in the OTA. This wasn't difficult, just nerve wracking.

    First light was at a reasonably dark sky site and I was simply blown away.

    Get the Dob base horizontal (use a bubble level and some wooden chocks to get this) and the OTA horizontal and pointing North (Home position). Then do a 2 star align. After that the GoTo is accurate to within about 0.3 degrees after a 120 degree slew.

    I can fully resolve M13, right to the core. M57 seems to have colour and the "ring" has structure - it isn't a simple ring.

    Views of lunar craters are simply awesome!

    This 'scope can be used for simple astrophotography of the moon or planets. Long exposures are not possible, but I can (and do) take 100 images of a lunar crater using a Canon 500D, stack and process these, ending up with a pretty pleasing image.

    The mount weighs about 26 kilos and will not go through a doorway. The OTA weighs about 17 kilos. The 'scope can be moved and set up by one person, but it is at the upper limit.

    Overall it is an excellent 'scope, with good optics, awesome light gathering and accurate goto. Tracking is fine for observing, keeping Saturn in the FOV for an hour at x100.

    A good observer's "light bucket", but Dobsonian mount is not suited to more than simple Lunar astrophotography.

    This 'scope is a keeper.

Its f/8 focal ratio and rack-and-pinion focuser makes this an ideal choice for observation and imaging - especially with larger or heavier rigs. Its relatively slow focal ratio means that exposure times will need to be longer than with faster scopes, but the focuser will be able to more weight as might be the case with imaging systems involving DSLR bodies, filter wheels, and other accessories. This 2" focuser will accept larger eyepieces so users can enjoy a truly immersive visual experience, and a 1.25" adapter is included to enable the use of the more common size eyepieces and accessories

    The heavy base weighs in at 25 pounds and provides a rock-steady platform with very low vibrations. This alt-az rocker mount features Teflon azimuth bearings and a tension clutch on altitude axis. Finally, the tension control handle allows users to adjust the settings allowing them to move the mount easily and smoothly by hand with minimal vibration and maintain its position when released.

The Pleiades (M45) was just a bit too large to fit in the field of view, but the main central stars looked stunning….Turning to Saturn, the view really took our breath away: we saw five moons, a clear-cut Cassini Division and a colour difference between the A and B rings.     The 8" Dobsonian Telescope from Sky-Watcher is a large-aperture, short focal-length, Newtonian reflector. It provides big light-bucket gathering, good optical quality and unique utility. It has an inspiring simple construction, emphasizing ease-of-use and greater aperture for lower cost.

    Sky-Watcher's optical tube design utilizes their proprietary truss support system. That system allows the optical tube's front and back tubes to collapse together, aligning on the truss support rods, and locking down for secure transport. This one piece, low-hassle OTA design is mechanically simple and results in a large aperture telescope that can be reasonably handled and transported by one individual. This innovation gives Sky-Watcher users tremendous functional ease-of-use.

    The Sky-Watcher Dobsonian's large aperture and fast focal ratio make it the ideal dedicated telescope for wide-field, deep-space observation of faint galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters. For ease-of-use, Sky-Watcher uses a high-performance Teflon bearing system in both axes combined with tension adjusters in altitude that assure smooth manual movement.

    Sky-Watcher Dobsonian telescopes offer quality optics, huge aperture, solid construction, and superb value for the investment.

    In viewing deep-space aperture counts big time. With this telescope you have tremendous light gathering power. Some prominent deep-space objects seen well in an 8" SW DOB are the Lagoon (M8), Trifid (M20), and Swan (M17) nebulae, the globular star clusters M13 and M92 in Hercules, the Great Orion Nebula (M42) and our local galaxy group companion, the Andromeda Galaxy (M31), and many more.

    On each parabolic primary mirror, and elliptical diagonal mirror, aluminum is vacuum deposited to the front glass surface and then over coated with hard quartz (SiO4). Additional layers of titanium dioxide (TiO2) and (SiO4) are then applied.

    An 8x50mm right angle optical viewfinder provides both magnification and light gathering to help narrow your search for those elusive fuzzies while star-hopping. The standard, backlash-free, 2" Crayford Focuser insures ultra smooth focusing adjustments. Multi-coated, 4-element Plossl eyepieces (25mm and 10mm) provide a spacious 52° Apparent Field of View.

    The Sky-Watcher USA Heritage 150mm f/5 Tabletop Reflector AZ Telescope has an ideal combination of power and portability for general all-around astronomy.

    The telescope is built using a truss tube system that allows the optical tube assembly (OTA) to be closed to about half its length during transport and storage, with the ability to be opened quickly and easily without having to collimate the mirrors so you can get to observing the night sky quickly.

    Optically, the Heritage is outfitted with a large 150mm aperture and aluminum-coated parabolic mirrors that draw in the light required to make detailed observations of the moon and planets, or to reach outside our solar system to see deep-sky objects. The optical tube is supported by a manual alt-azimuth tabletop mounting system that allows you to set up the scope just about anywhere—from a patio or picnic table to a tailgate or car hood.

    When you need to pack up and go home, simply collapse the tube, rotate it down to minimize its form factor, and grab the mount's integrated handle to carry it safely and securely. To get you observing right out of the box, Sky-Watcher includes two eyepieces and a red dot finder.

    The Virtuoso GTi has undergone a major transformation from the original Sky-Watcher Virtuoso mount in all the ways that matter: larger aperture, faster focal ratio, a collapsible optical tube assembly, and built-in Wi-Fi for full GoTo telescope control via a smartphone and Sky-Watcher's free SynScan app for iOS and Android. While the original Virtuoso was more focused on planetary, solar, and lunar viewing with its long focal length and included solar filter, this version borrows its collapsible optical tube design from the popular line of Flextube and Heritage Sky-Watcher Dobsonians for a versatile package that does it all.

    The Virtuoso GTi features Sky-Watcher's Radiant Aluminum Quartz (RAQ) coatings on all optical surfaces for bright, bold views. It comes complete with everything you need to start exploring the night sky mere minutes out of the box, including a red dot finder and two eyepieces (25mm and 10mm). With the free SynScan Pro app, available for iOS and Android, the user has access to a database that contains over 10,000 objects, including Messier, NGC, IC, and Caldwell catalogs. Align on the stars using one of four alignment methods to put Virtuoso GTi's internal computer to work and track objects like the sun, moon, and stars at precise rates. Also included is Sky-Watcher's patented Freedom Find technology, which uses dual encoders to allow manual control while retaining alignment and position information, providing exceptional convenience and flexibility while viewing.
