Quigley-Ford vs. Other Etched Reticle ScopesThere are many etched reticle scopes on the market today. Just about every reputable scope company is making one. What sets Quigley-Ford apart from the rest, is that ours are truly custom.
Most etched reticle scopes offer different reticles with different range options. Almost all give suggestions for groups of calibers that will work, but none go as far as customizing the reticle to the caliber and the specific load you shoot. Quigley-Ford does.
Our scopes are custom to the caliber, grain weight of bullet, muzzle velocity and ballistic coefficient. Our scopes can be etched for the factory load shooter or the hand loader as well. Some etched reticle scopes will have you calculating your bullets trajectory online and then using different hash marks within the reticle for true drop points. This can be very complicated and confusing and often creates too much room for human error. Quigley-Ford has simplified the process by offering the hunter a scope that is etched specifically for his load.

I was given the opportunity to test a Quigley-Ford 4x16x50 scope,
custom etched for my Remington 700 BDL, shooting 280 grain 30.06
loads. This is by far the highest quality scope that I have ever had
the opportunity to use.
Before I even had hands on the scope, I was impressed with the company.
Randy Ford contacted me quickly after I was selected to test. He was
patient with me (I was away from home at a professional conference), and
helped me decide what would be best for me. He took great pains to
make sure I got what was right for my gun and loads.
Out of the box, I was struck by how much heavier this scope is than my
last one. My last scope, however, was a vintage, fixed-power Redfield.
I believe that the weight may be a limiting factor for me, as my area
is extremely rugged. I won't have a problem using it at the range,
though. In the box with the scope I found: fitted flip-up lens caps, an
allen wrench, and a soft cleaning cloth. Everything was packed
securely, and would probably survive a 15 foot fall with no trouble.
I was afraid that I might have to put everything on pause to find higher
scope rings, which would also entail installing a new weaver base as
well. Luckily, my previous set up had just enough room to install for
testing purposes. As you can see from the picture, I will still have to
find a new base and rings eventually. Installation was quick and easy
once I decided to try the old rings and base.
Zeroing the scope was a simple process. I used a bore sight to get the
initial positioning. I was able to quickly zero the scope at the
recommended 200 yards. From there, the fun began. Since gun season had
already started, I had almost full run of the rifle range. I set up
targets every 50 yards from 150 to 400. (The range was only marked out
to 300 yards, so guessing slightly on 400) I set multiple targets so I
could see how easy it was to shoot different ranges. The etched
reticle made it almost idiot-proof. While I was shooting, the wind
never hit 10 mph, so I never had to guess beyond the etched lines (the
lines are etched longer at each range to account for wind up to 10
mph). I was impressed at how easy it was to sight in at each yardage
and switch back and forth. Parallax was never a problem at the ranges I
was shooting. I never had even an ounce of trouble hitting kill shots
on the farthest target.
Overall, I think this scope is too rich for my blood, but I firmly
believe that it is worth every cent. If I ever get to a position where I
could purchase a scope of this quality, I would be ecstatic to give
